Scenery

As many of you have heard say “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. We can safely say here that the beauty that seen at all BC Fishing Lodges is in the eye of every beholder. From the lodge to remote inlets and in our case the West Coast of Vancouver Island you will find a memorable picture to take home..Some guests say “I was taking so many pictures I almost missed the fish that was biting”. Picking the right Lodge pretty much applies in the case of scenery to all lodges in our area. We are truly blessed on the coast of British Columbia, the mixture of evergreen forest, ocean, wildlife, island mountains as well as the coastal mountain chain sets a pristine background for every shot. Where this really comes into play is out on the boat, I doubt that there is a more flexible platform that lets you move around your own set like being in a boat. Almost every angle is available and with that so comes the light. You simply must experience it to see it. Most people have a camera in their phone but sadly forget or do not know how to use it. Keep this in mind you never know when you will get a that National Geographical Moment. Here are a few ideas for your stay.

  • Plan ahead
If you are an avid photographer, you know how it is “I was so excited I forgot everything”. Try writing a list out or better yet keep one on your phone.

  • What to bring
As mentioned most are ok with their phone but even an inexpensive digital camera with a good telephoto lens might just be worth its weight in if that perfect whale just breeches out of your mobile phones range.

  • Cameras
Many of you may or may not know that what happens inside a mobile phone when it comes to images that the telephoto or zoom functions are produced in most cases digitaly and they rely on the number of pixels your phone can collect with a telephoto lens the quality is many many times greater.

  • The Image
Since animals move sometimes it is worth your while to wait a few minutes or stop if you see a potential chance for good shot of some seals or whales. They may move on, and you might not get a chance at that shot again.

  • Lighting and Setting
There can’t be enough said about getting the lighting right. If you’re taking a shot of someone holding a fish in the back of the boat remember to get the Captain to swing around so the sun is behind you and frame the shot with whatever the background is the best at hand. Also see if the fish has a lot of slim or blood and ask your guide to wash that off I know you think well I cane Photo Shop that out but why take a chance and why spend all that time with the stamp and please remember remove all the clutter pop cans, rods, fish rags you get the idea make the shot as clean as possible.

  • Sunsets
What can I say when Mother Nature present itself a sunset cannot say it more. Having the deck of our lodge facing west with the island mountains setting the backdrop, stunning sunsets happen on a regular bases.

Timing as you know is crucial in photography. You can Photo Shop tone, light and other aspect but getting the combination of wildlife and lighting to a certain extent is timely. Unfortunately, I find the guests to many times missing the best time of the shot because they are busy inside the lodge or cuddy cabin. Make sure you take some time to really get out and look around you will definitley be rewarded for lt.
