Great for Families Friends

Fishing in the Campbell River area and inlets (east side of the island) as well as Nootka Sound (west side) has been superb over the past five years. Here’s where picking the right Lodge is important. We are experiencing strong years of returns in our area and the fishing looks great for 2023! Whether you are an avid or novice fisher, our guides can give you the help you need to bring in your next big catch that is what fishing is like in BC.

Our fleet of 24’ Sea Ray boats (marine head onboard) are a perfect match for the waters you will be fishing. Our ability to fish both sides of Vancouver Island is a bonus, and whether you are after trophy fish or just out for a great time, the two areas really compliment each other. Many guests love being out on the water and enjoying the coastal scenery, the comradery with friends and family, or the opportunity to talk business in a great environment. Whether you’re celebrating a retirement or birthday, offering a business incentive, or getting together with old friends, we can help create a memorable experience for you and yours.

  • Time of year
We fish from May until the end of September.

  • Fish in our area
King salmon (chinook), silvers (coho), and sockeye are prevalent in our waters. Pink and chum are in the area later in the season. Bottom fish such as halibut, lingcod and rock cod, as well as crabbing and prawning are available as well. Please check with the lodge to find out what can be fished during your visit and note that there may be times certain fish can’t be caught due to regulations set out by The Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

When all factors are working in our favour and our guests hit their limit, it is a thing of beauty! This is our goal - However it’s important to keep in mind that it is not a guarantee. All fishing locations in BC are faced with similar challenges. Here are a few things to consider:

  • What is running and limit regulations

Runs coming into the area change from day to day, and we can’t be assured of what’s out there. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans publishes a list of fish that can be fished at certain times of the year. This list usually comes out in May, but limits are subject to change. You can ask your guide what is currently available.

  • Weather
Changes in weather patterns can impact fish feeding habits and the likelihood of a great catch. Summer storms can also affect the day - If there’s a chance of thunder or lightening, it’s safest to head back to the lodge and try again another time
Check out the Marine Weather site. We do our best to anticipate weather challenges and work around them. Here is the local weather channel.

  • Area
Fish are always moving! What might have been a great spot on your first day may not translate to repeated success on your second day.

  • Tackle
There are many things to consider when choosing tackle - This is where our knowledgeable and experienced guides step in! Our guides maintain a network with others in the area to keep a pulse on what tackle is working and what isn’t.

  • Time of day
Tides can have a major impact on fishing success. Fish in our area follow the feed - typically smaller fish moving to slower waters. Our guides know the area inside and out, and work with the ebbs and flows of the tide to find that perfect fishing spot!

  • The biggest factor of all - Luck!
Even the most novice of fishers can max out their limit or land the biggest catch of the day - while the most experienced might strike out. Luck certainly comes into play when you’re out on the water!

A great trip can’t only be defined by what you catch. Vancouver Island waters showcase some of the most beautiful scenery in the world! Enjoy the outdoors, and the time spent with those you are fishing with. We are here to make your trip memorable - don’t hesitate to chat with your guide, our chef, or management about how we can make your stay with us a success. We look forward to seeing you soon!
